Sandy Courage may not be a name you are familiar with but I bet you know at least one of his songs. Back in 1965 he composed, arranged and conducted the theme song for a new TV show called Star Trek. Putting it all together in one week, it became his most well known song.
According to tradition, Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry wrote the Star Trek theme lyrics so that he could claim half the royalties every time it was played. Read the rest of this entry »
The news that Harvey Korman passed away today reminded me of what a great comedian he was. While many people will remember him for his many years working with Tim Conway on the Carol Burnett Show, which I admit were very funny, I think I’ll remember him most for his role as Hedley Lamarr in the Mel Brookes classic western, Blazing Saddle.
Here for your enjoyment, and to bring back a few great memories are what I consider the top 10 lines from Blazing Saddle. Read the rest of this entry »
Like millions of Americans, I like to watch cooking shows. I especially like shows like The Next Food Network Star and Top Chef. Watching unknown chefs cook competitively just amazes me. The way they can throw these fantastic meals together with little or no advance planning just amazes me.
Top Chef had a special guest judge tonight and although I don’t usually pay any attention to the judges, Rick Tramonto really imprressed me. He owns several restaurants around Chicago, including the one in tonights show, Tramonto’s Steak & Seafood.
What’s interesting about Rick Tramonto is that his 25 year career started out at Wendy’s. Not some fancy restaurant called Wendys, but Wendy’s Old Fashioned Hamburgers. A native of Rochester, New York, he went to school to learn to be a cook and then, after graduation, took a job as a fry cook to help support his family. After a couple years he moved on to The Scotch and Sirloin and from there his career bloomed. Read the rest of this entry »
In 2005 country singer Chris Cagle released his album “Anywhere But Here”. In February he released “My Lifes Been a Country Song”. Today he’s probably singing both as he sits in jail, charged with domestic abuse and suffering from a massive hangover.
If you’ve never had a hangover, count yourself lucky. I’ve had a few and they aren’t fun. Your head hurts, your stomach is upset and you just feel like dying. You swear that you’ll never drink again. But you do. And then you suffer. Again. Read the rest of this entry »
The new Indiana Jones movie will be out nationwide, or is it worldwide, on May 22nd. I really enjoyed the first three Indiana Jones movies, although Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was a little hokey. Anyhow, just in time for the release of Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, Paramount is releasing the first 3 movies on DVD. Unlike last time they hauled the Indiana Jones movies out of the vault, this time you will be able to buy them separately, or in a set.
Looks like actor Dennis Farina is is going to get a look at Law and Order from other side of the camera. Farina, who played Detective Fontana on the NBC’s Law and Order was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport for having a loaded pistol in his carry on luggage. Farnia, a former Chicago police officer, claimed that he forgot the pistol was in the bag. Thing went from bad to worse when police discovered the handgun was not registered. Can someone explain how a former policeman forgets he has an unregistered handgun in his carry on? Let’s hope that the fact that Farina is a celebrity doesn’t get him out of paying for his crime.
