Bozo the Clown is dead.
Bozo the Clown is alive and well and living throughout the country. How can that be?
Larry Harmon was hired in 1956, along with several other actors, to make personal appearances as
Bozo the Clown.
Larry Harmon eventually bought the rights to the
Bozo the Clown character and began franchising it to television stations around the country. So many people around the country grew up with their own
Bozo that if you ask 6 people from 6 parts of the country to describe Bozo, you’ll get 6 different answers. In Southern Michigan, there were 4 different stations that had a
Bozo the Clown show, and each of them had a different
Bozo. Some stations had more than one
Bozo the Clown, if the show ran long enough. My favorite
Bozo the Clown was Dick Richards, who appeared on WZZM-TV in Grand Rapids, Michigan for 31 years and is still alive and well. So is
Bozo the Clown dead? Not by any means. Larry Harmon may have passed away at the age of 83, but
Bozo the Clown will live forever.
