Sad Flagstaff news today as we learned that there was a helicopter crash today. The helicopter crash happened when two medical helicopters had a midair collision and killed 7 people. It’s hard to get the story straight but it looks like this is the second helicopter crash in the Flagstaff Arizona area in the last few days. AHN reports that an Air Evac helicopter crashed on Saturday, injuring two of the three people on board. Then on Sunday the helicopter crash involving a medical helicopter from Air Methods Corp. I haven’t been able to find out who the second helicopter belonged to. Last month an Air Methods Corp helicopter in Wisconsin crashed killing all three on board. I don’t know about you but it’s a little strange to me that all of a sudden we have a helicopter crash on Saturday, and then another on Sunday. As someone who has spent a fair amount of time in helicopters, and at least half of it in the American Eurocopter, which is what was involved in the helicopter crash today and last month, I believe there is cause for concern here. I have to wonder if this is just pilot error, or if there is a design or maintenance problem that has led to these helicopter crashes. Until we find out the facts, you better hope you don’t need to use a medical helicopter.
