It’s finally summer and it seems like everybody is trying to lose weight. Five pounds here, ten pounds there. Everybody wants to look a little bit better at the beach. If you are a little overweight, here’s some inspiration for you.

I just read about a lady named Nancy Makin from Michigan who lost 530 pounds. That’s right, this woman lost 530 pounds. What’s even more amazing is that she did it without using any weight loss pills or having any kind of surgery.

Nancy Makin lived in an apartment in Grand Rapids, Michigan that she says she only left about 8 times in 12 years. So how did she take off the weight? The internet.

Unlike many people who spend hours sitting in front of their computer and start adding on the pounds, Nancy discovered the world of internet communication. Visiting chat rooms and online forums, she was able to make friends that didn’t know what she looked like, or how much she weighed. They were her friends because of who she was.

Part of Nancy’s problem was that because she was stuck in her apartment, she felt isolated. Being isolated led her to eating. Eating led to weight gain, lots of weight gain, and that just decreased her self esteem more.

Once Nancy started making friends on the net, her self esteem improved and her eating habits changed. The weight started dropping and the rest, as they say, is history. After becoming known as the woman who lost 530 pounds, Nancy Makin appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show, Fox News and several other television and radio programs.

Nancy Makin is a hero to many people because she showed that you don’t have to suffer to lose weight.

Hey - this is actually a nice story about the internet. The media just usually condemns it for being the cause of many evils. I’m glad Nancy found the support she needed.
